Synopsis: "On 'the first day of Lent,' Angel faces death and takes stock of his life, weighing his sins and failings over the turbulent decades following the war. His memories take him back to the Communist takeover of Bulgaria in 1944 and its brutal aftermath, during which he falls in love with Stojka. Though long in the past, the events of those years continue to haunt Angel as he lies on his dead bed.
